Lucy Care - Artist

Homage to Claughton Pellew

Also a non-toxic intaglio print.  Claughton Pellew lived as a recluse at a house now called, #'Wedgewood' outside the village of Southrepps.  You can still see the countryside around in his is still all there tho the people are different...  He made meticulous woodcuts of great intricacy.  A great artist.  He was a recluse because, having gone to art college with the Nash brothers etc, he became a conscientious objector before the First World War when he found faith through Roman Catholicism.  Like many others he was imprisoned and so badly treated he no longer could mix with society.  The Nash brothers and Mark Gertler used to visit him up here though, that's why there are so many Nash drawings and paintings of North Norfolk.
